No cross-play for now, but it might arrive later on

343 Industries is working on Halo: The Master Chief Collection on PC and they are going to allow some cross-platform data to be shared with the Xbox One version.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection for PC promises to be one the biggest launches of the year, even if it’s actually a selection of old titles, some of which are more than a decade old. The fact that so many people can barely contain their excitement is a true testament to their quality.

The Halo: The Master Chief Collection (Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, the Halo 3: ODST Campaign and Halo 4) was initially launched on Xbox One back in 2014, and another game was added to the collection since then. It’s a shame that it took so long for this anthology to arrive on PC, but at least it coming.

Maybe cross-play, who knows?

Right after 343 Industries revealed that they are planning to release Halo: The Master Chief Collection for PC users, a natural question was raised. What kind of cross-play can we get? Will Xbox One and PC players be able to play together or against each other?

The answer, for now, is that some cross-platform data will be shared between the two platforms, but cross-play won’t be available, at least not at first. According to a Wccftech report, Brian Jarrard, community director at 343 Industries, said that “progression, unlocks, stats, etc.. will carry over between PC/console. In terms of playing together cross-platform, currently not planned for launch but it's something the team is accounting for and will evaluate over time.”

The fact that cross-play wasn’t dismissed is a good sign, especially since there are more and more titles today that allows this type of interaction between platforms.

It’s also worth noting that Halo: The Master Chief Collection is not part of the Play Anywhere program, which means that if you have it on Xbox One and you want to play it on PC, you will have to buy it.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is expected to arrive for PC players sometime in 2019.
