Other content might be used to deliver narrative

Halo 5: Guardians might have only been launched for a few days, but a lot of fans of Master Chief and the universe built around him have already completed the story-driven campaign, either alone or cooperatively, and they are not happy with the limited amount of closure that the game offers.

Josh Holmes, the creative director, working on the game, tells Red Bull that 343 Industries and Microsoft do not at the moment have any plans to deliver downloadable content packs that will introduce more narrative content for the game.

This basically means that fans will have to wait for the next installment in the series, which might be three years away before they get more information about the way the universe of the series is affected by the experiences they have just played through.

Homes explains that "While we're always looking for new ways to expand the Halo universe, we do not currently have any plans to release future campaign content for Halo 5: Guardians."

The statement does not rule out the possibility that 343 Industries might work on its own or with another studio to create a spin-off, an ODST like experience that focuses on other characters as they explore the universe using a new perspective.

Fans should also be ready to get access to more novels and possibly another animated series that will expand the Halo universe.

It's unlikely that Microsoft will deliver any more live action movies based on the franchise, given that the studio that produced Nightfall has been disbanded.

The future of Halo 5: Guardians is linked to multiplayer

There are plenty of fans who might only be interested in finding out what happens to Master Chief and Agent Locke, but a wider percentage in the community will extract more value from the shooter by playing Warzone or Arena.

For them, 343 Industries has made it clear that it will be offering new maps for free for a full year in order to make sure that there's no split among the player base.

Before the end of November, Halo 5: Guardians should get a major content update that adds the Big Team Battle mode and some associated maps.

In December, the community will also get access to a Forge that has an expanded set of features and allows dedicated gamers to create their own combat spaces.

343 Industries is also listening to feedback and is using data to decide which gameplay changes will improve the overall balance of Halo 5: Guardians, with a focus on how the various weapons perform.

After launch, a segment of players have complained about the new REQ mechanics, saying that they tend to transform the Warzone mode into a pay-to-win experience.

343 Industries has said that it plans to use revenue derived from the system, which allows gamers to use real world money to get cards, to fund the prize pool for a major set of tournaments for Halo 5: Guardians, which will take place during the winter and will feature the Arena mechanics.
