Halo 5: Guardians developer 343 Industries has just showcased a huge guide and a lengthy video detailing the all-new REQ system that's found in the multiplayer Arena and Warzone modes from the upcoming shooter. The special system rewards players for their actions and provides access to cosmetic and permanent items.

Halo 5 is set to make its debut at the end of October, and developer 343 Industries is putting the final touches on the long-awaited first-person shooter that's coming exclusively to the Xbox One platform from Microsoft.

The studio has already gone in depth about the story campaign, which can be played solo or with friends via the cooperative mode, and now 343 is shedding more light on the all-new REQ system that's included in the multiplayer modes.

The REQ system brings cosmetic as well as permanent items to players

As you can see in the video below, narrated by hilarious character Mister Chief who's voiced by Nick Offerman, the REQ system consists of virtual cards with items and other things imprinted on them. In both the Arena and the Warzone multiplayer modes, players can redeem the cards at REQ stations scattered throughout the maps in order to access those items.

There are cosmetic REQ cards, which include skins for weapons, special armor parts, and so on. These are available in both Arena and Warzone.

Then there are the permanent and single-use item cards, which give players access to powerful weapons, vehicles, and so on. These offer in-game advantages and only some are allowed in the Arena. In the Warzone mode, everything is fair game.

Players can score REQ points during regular matches but they can also buy them via microtransactions. However, you can't activate them all at once, as a special system governs their use during a multiplayer match.

Check out the lengthy video below, as well as the guide on the official blog, to see some of the cards and the whole REQ system in action.
