The Ghosts of Meridian free update for Halo 5: Guardians might have just arrived, but the development team at 343 Industries says that it is working on a range of new content for the shooter, including a major update for the campaign side of the title, which is focused on Master Chief and his exploits.

The Warzone Firefight mode is at the moment in closed beta, and the studio is saying that on Thursday more than 287,086 hours of the experience were played, with the studio gathering data to improve the core mechanics before full launch at some point in the summer.

343 Industries is also working on a new Infection mode for Halo 5: Guardians , and the team is aiming to make it available on both specially designed maps and for those created by the player community.

The Coliseum, Fathom and Empire maps have also tweaked weapon distribution, all of it based on the feedback offered by fans, and more changes like these are set to be offered in the future.

343 Industries adds, "we deployed an update that made Fiesta CTF, Fiesta Strongholds, and Fiesta Assault available in Custom Games, meaning you can fire up these game variants any time you’d like. Typically, these have been built into Custom Game options, but this would’ve taken quite a bit more time to deliver. So rather wait until those updates can be integrated, the Multiplayer team built some new variants that you can play right now, and I’ll go try to convince some people here to make Fiesta CTF a week-long social playlist one day."

Halo 5: Guardians is also improving its campaign mode

Chris Proctor, the senior systems designer, admits that it's rare that major video games tweak their campaigns so long after launch, but 343 Industries feels that it has the resources required to eliminate some of the difficulty spikes and other issues.

The studio is ready to offer details about the actual changes that it is planning to make to the campaign and explains that all the associated Artificial Intelligence tweaks for enemies will also be applied to Warzone.

The development team is not saying when it plans to deliver the updated take on the campaign of Halo 5: Guardians.

The next big free update for the game is Memories of Reach, which will probably be provided at some point during May, and the Warzone Firefight experience that is currently in beta will be delivered to all gamers during the summer.
