We already know that the new map which will be part of the coming Ghosts of Meridian free downloadable content pack for Halo 5: Guardians will be called Skirmish at Darkstar, and the developers at 343 Industries are ready to give players information about the lore powering the new environment.

On the official site offer a short narrative on the loss of Pinnacle Station and its effect on Liang-Dortmund's operations and how the company shifted headquarter to Darkstar Station, including a resource processor ship and additional workers.

343 Industries adds, "But anomalies abound beneath the battered surface as ancient machinery buried deep in the planet’s mantle stir to life, and the UNSC makes plans to once again revisit the surface in search of answers, regardless of what forces that intervention may unleash."

So far 343 Industries has not offered a full list of the new REQ cards that are coming to Halo 5: Guardians in the first few days of April and there are no details about changes made to the core game mechanics.

Ghosts of Meridian is designed to keep gamers engaged with the multiplayer side of the shooter as the development team is preparing for a bigger update that will add the Warzone Firefight mode, designed for Player versus Environment action, in the summer.

Halo World Championship comes with extra REQ content

343 Industries also tries to reconcile the existence of the real world Halo World Championship, which is offering its final matches later in the night, with the war games that Spartans are holding in the fiction of the series to determine the best way to approach a combat situation.

Those who log into the Xbox Live Event Interactive app or Twitch will be able to get access to a special REQ pack associated with the competition and those who do not yet have Halo 5: Guardians can also pick up the title for half its price.

According to the studio, the new Challenger set of armor is being introduced, which features high-performance thrusters and shield emitter arrays that require significant monitoring, with a helmet with improved competitive performance.

The winning team of the Halo World Championship will get a 1 million dollars (780,000 Euro) prize which was in part funded by gamers who used real world money to pick REQ packs associated with Halo 5: Guardians.

343 Industries is working with Dark Horse on a new graphic novel associated with the franchise that will be launched later in the year.
