The teams at developer 343 Industries and publisher Microsoft have already announced that the December update for Halo 5: Guardians is called Cartographer's Gift, and now the two companies are willing to share plenty of details with those who will be enjoying the new content in a few weeks.

The game will get access to new maps, more REQ cards and gameplay tweaks, but the focus is on the new Forge editing system, which allows players to create their environments and battle situations and share them with the rest of the community.

The official announcement explains that, "The new Forge includes a ton of new features including 1700+ objects, new object types such as FX and sound emitters, decals, invisible blockers, projected terrain pieces, lighting objects, a new multi-selection control scheme, precision editing, object grouping, true budget system (with a higher object placement count), smart magnets, and plenty, plenty more."

A file browser is included to allow players to bookmark, play and share maps and modes even with those who are not friends.

343 Industries is also introducing Seasons for Halo 5: Guardians, allowing gamers to compete in a more focused experience for the Arena side of the game, with the start set to take place when Cartographer's Gift arrives and the end coming on January 31.

Social playlists are also coming with the next update, first for the Big Team Battle mode and later for the rest of the experiences featured in the shooter.

Halo 5: Guardians is also getting CSR tweaks

To keep the game as balanced as possible, the developers are making changes to how CSR and matchmaking works, trying to make sure that gamers of certain skills are placed in battles against worthy opponents.

Halo 5: Guardians FFA is also moving to a six-player model, which 343 Industries determined to be the best number for a balanced experience.

Battle of Noctus is the new map coming to the shooter in the new Cartographer's Gift update, set on the planet of Andesia and featuring a unique take on the Warzone experience, with two garages on each side and a monument in the center.

The two vehicle spaces underline their importance for both teams, but there are also man cannons that allow players who love infantry engagements to move across the map and reach the enemy base.

Cartographer's Gift will also offer gamers access to Overgrowth, Antifreeze and Entombed.

343 Industries is also working to improve the overall user interface for Halo 5: Guardians to make sure that gamers have all the details they need to make decisions in and out of combat.

The studio explains that it is also taking into account all the feedback that was offered about the control settings for the shooter and that more ways to tweak them are coming in the update.

343 Industries plans to use a special stream on Friday, December 11 to show off more content that will be part of the Cartographer's Gift for Halo 5: Guardians, which will be offered to gamers during the week of December 15.
