Great news for Halo fans, as Microsoft recently confirmed that the second installment in the Master Chief Collection, Halo 2 will be released for PC on May 12. The game will be available for free for all Xbox Game Pass subscribers starting next week.

This is the third game in the Halo universe included in the Master Chief Collection, which makes its debut on PC. Microsoft has already released to other games that are also available for free via Xbox Game Pass – Halo: Reach and Halo: Combat Evolved.

Three other Halo games are expected to come to PC in the coming months: Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo 4. All three will be included in the same Master Chief Collection bundle. On a side note, Microsoft confirmed Halo Infinite will arrive on Xbox One and Xbox One Series X in Q4 2020.

Halo fans who aren't Xbox Game Pass subscribers, but want to play the old Halo games on PC, can buy the Master Chief Collection for $40 / €40 / £30 via Microsoft Store and Steam. The option to buy each game individually for $10 / €10 / £7 is available as well if you can't afford the bundle price.

In case you didn't know, Halo 2 has been developed by Bungie, makers of Destiny, and was initially released for Xbox back in 2004. It's the sequel to Halo: Combat Evolved, one of the best games in the series. In fact, Halo 2 is the best-selling first-generation Xbox game with more than 8 million copies sold worldwide.

It's also worth mentioning that this is not the first Halo 2 re-release. Microsoft debuted a port of the game for Windows Vista back in 2007 and a high-definition remastered version called Halo 2 Anniversary seven years later.
