Valve confirms that Half-Life 3, its long-awaited first-person shooter, won't be a virtual reality experience. No other details were given by the studio but at least fans can rest assured that they won't need to get a VR headset in order to enjoy the game at some point in time.

Half-Life 3 is a prime example of vapourware, as the game has been rumored to be in development for a huge amount of time but, given Valve's notoriously secretive nature, not to mention its lack of forced projects for its staff, it seems that the game won't ever make an appearance.

Half-Life 3 won't be a VR game, Valve confirms

Even so, Valve's Chet Faliszek confirms, via VG247, that Half-Life 3, when it eventually appears, won't require a virtual reality headset like Valve and HTC's Vive, the Oculus Rift, or other such devices.

When asked about experiencing Half-Life 3 in VR, Faliszek just said "No," and declined to talk anymore about the potential game.

Of course, this is just a tiny detail but it's possible that Valve already has a good idea for Half-Life 3 and that virtual reality isn't a part of the intended first-person shooter experience.

Valve is working on lots of projects and VR activities

Right now, the studio is busy with major games, such as Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, or Team Fortress 2, not to mention tech project like Source 2, SteamOS, or the Vive VR headset.

The Steam Machines, together with the Steam Link and Steam Controller are set to appear this fall, as well as early versions of the Vive. Valve has already made several tech demos for the virtual reality headset based on the Secret Shop from Dota 2 or from an early Portal 2 level.

The secretive studio doesn't confirm full-fledged VR experiences just yet. Given the new statement, Half-Life 3 won't spearhead a VR push for the developer's Vive project.
