14 DAY TRIAL // Hackers managed to compromise the official website of Kuwait’s parliament on Saturday night, only a few hours before the start of elections, warning that a member of the parliament is an undercover Iranian and Syrian spy.
The attack was launched by hacking group Group_Dmar, who posted a message on the website to call for the other members of the parliament to unite against Abdul Hamid Dashti, an alleged agent for Iran.
“A word for agent Dashti: the people and government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are a red line not to be crossed,” the message read according to TheNewArab.
The attackers claimed they previously obtained correspondence between Abdul Hamid Dashti and his collaborators in Iran and Syria, and threatened to leak everything if their colleagues did not take action against what they described as a “plot against Gulf nations in general and the Kuwati people in particular.”
“Grant citizenship to Bidoon”
Additionally, the message posted by hackers requested MPs to grant Kuwaiti citizenship to Bidoon, which is a term describing residents of the country who do not have the rights of those born there. There are approximately 110,000 people falling in the Bidoon category in the country right now, but only some 34,000 are eligible for citizenship, authorities claim.
“When will there suffering end? No education or healthcare,” the message read, according to the same source.
Earlier this year, it was reported that the MP was sentenced to 14 years and 6 months in prison after insulting Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, but Abdul Hamid Dashti left the country on the day of the sentence in order to receive medical treatment in the United Kingdom.
It’s not yet clear how the hackers managed to deface the website, but at the time of writing this article the page has already been restored and the message posted by the attackers is no longer there.
