New version of the app released this morning

Microsoft is getting ready for a new phase of the Windows 10 upgrade push, and it appears that the company is already making the new OS a recommended download in Windows Update, so users need to be super vigilant to prevent it from installing.

The easiest way to stick with your current operating system without risking getting Windows 10 accidentally is to use GWX Control Panel, an application that disables the Get Windows 10 app and blocks the upgrade from starting on your computer.

And thanks to an update released this morning, the app is now supposed to be even more effective, as it corrects some of the bugs that users came across in the previous versions.

GWX Control Panel version 1.7.2.0 adds thread-safe error logging for better troubleshooting while also making the screen refresh more accurately depending on the status of the monitoring mode, according to the official release notes.

More bug fixes and improvements

At the same time, the developer says that he “fixed a confusing user interface issue where on some computers, clicking ‘Disable Get Windows 10 App’ or ‘Prevent Windows 10 Upgrades’ didn't refresh the dialog, making it look like the buttons didn't work, when in fact they were working,” so the overall performance of the application should now be improved.

Starting early 2016, Microsoft is making Windows 10 a recommended download in Windows Update, so there are bigger chances for some computers to end up upgrading to the new version without users specifically wanting it.

Microsoft guarantees that everyone will be prompted to install Windows 10 before the process starts, so every single click in Windows Update should be carefully looked into. In case you upgrade to Windows 10 by mistake, you have 30 days to downgrade to your previous Windows version straight from within the operating system, with no other work involved.
