He spent too much time on the road, wouldn’t listen

Gwen Stefani filed divorce papers yesterday, asking for the dissolution of her 13-year marriage to Gavin Rossdale. He filed his response shortly afterwards, and they issued a statement to say that irreconcilable differences made it impossible for them to stay married, but they would remain friends for the sake of their 3 children.

According to new reports, irreconcilable differences had nothing to do with the divorce, but cheating did. Gwen didn’t want to end the relationship but she felt she had no other choice since she noticed Gavin’s heart was no longer in it. She also suspected him of cheating with the nanny.

It’s all Gavin’s fault

Both TMZ and Radar Online cite infidelity as the real cause for the split: Gwen was convinced Gavin was sleeping around because he was spending too much time away from home and wouldn’t listen when she asked him to be more focused on the family.

TMZ doesn’t say out-right that he cheated, but stresses that Gwen was convinced of it. Radar, on the other hand, points the finger at the nanny, saying that Gwen had been repeatedly warned that Gavin’s relationship with “the help” isn’t what you might call a professional or even a platonic one.

This cheating “scandal” comes hot on the heels of revelations that actor Ben Affleck also slept with his kids’ nanny, starting the affair when he and Jennifer Garner were still a couple and continuing it after they decided to divorce - but before they announced it to the press.

“Gwen is absolutely devastated about the marriage ending, and she has been inconsolable,” a source says for Radar. “But she had no other choice. She was very suspicious that Gavin was involved with the nanny.”

An amicable split, so far

Officially, Gwen and Gavin have only said this much: they have reached the end of the road together and will be splitting, while focusing on making the transition as easy as possible for their 3 children, Kingston, 9, Zuma, 6, and Apollo, 17 months.

In court documents obtained by the media, both asked for joint custody of the kids, but Gwen also checked the box that denies Gavin spousal support.

They did not have a prenup, which means that, by California law, everything they have will be split in half. The reason Gwen wants the judge to not grant Gavin spousal support is that she’s the richer of the two, with a fortune estimated at $80 million (€72.9 million). Gavin’s isn’t even half that.
