The team is unhappy with the Rockstar reaction

The creators of the FiveM mod for Grand Theft Auto V have been banned from the Rockstar Social Club and the associated services by Rockstar and it seems that the reason is the fact that they created an alternative take on the Online experience.

The moderator of the official Reddit for the mode says that the timing of the bans means that they were made manually and adds that Rockstar has not shared reasons for its actions.

FiveM is designed to use dedicated servers which allow gamers to create an alternate take on the Online experience in GTA V that permits the use of custom levels and assets, as well as the deployment of mods that actively tweak the gameplay.

Rockstar does not allow them to exist in the core Online because it feels that some gamers might get advantages from using them, and it has announced that it will be delivering bans for players who enable them.

The FiveM team states, "The good news is that Rockstar doesn't seem to be banning people for just using single player mods. The bad news is that Rockstar is trying to stifle the modding community."

Apparently, the bans might be linked to the fact that a Social Club connection is used to make sure that gamers did not play the mod with a pirated copy of GTA V.

Rockstar has not offered any reaction about the FiveM situation

The development team has been working hard to deliver more content for the Online mode in GTA V, but it has also acknowledged that it was unable to offer it at the pace that the community wanted.

This led to the development of tools that gamers can use to create their own missions, which are then curated by the studio.

But Rockstar has also taken a tough stance against mods that have the potential to affect the core gameplay of Online.

FiveM does not do that directly, but the very fact that it offers an alternative that is more open seems to make it a threat in the eyes of the company.

Rockstar might re-enable the mod and un-ban those associated with it at a later date.
