It’s also supposed to work in GTA Online

GTA V and Windows Phone fans rejoice, as a custom mod now allows you to replace the iPhone (or the iFruit as Rockstar calls it) with a Microsoft device, both in single player and in online modes.

The creator of the mod has tried to stick with the real Windows 10 Mobile design as much as possible, so you get (some sort of) tiles for the most popular Microsoft apps, including Xbox and OneDrive.

Before you ask, this mod is supposed to replace Michael’s iPhone, as in GTA V everybody is using a different device – Franklin uses Android, Michael has an iPhone, and Trevor carries a Windows phone, although its brand is not yet very clear.

You won’t get banned, the developer promises

In case you’re afraid that you might get banned if you apply this mod, the developer says that he’s been using these modifications in GTA Online since September and his account is perfectly fine.

“I use it from September 2015 and so far nothing has happened. By the way, when you install any other phone into the game on Michael, it reflects online too,” he says.

As mentioned in this reddit thread, this kind of modification is very appealing for Windows Phone fans because, as we already know, Microsoft’s mobile operating system has one of the most loyal userbases out there.

Certainly, Redmond could be more effective in its attempts to make the most out of this loyal user base, but up until now, the secrecy around the company’s future mobile platforms seems to remain a priority to Microsoft.

And unfortunately, it’s this secrecy the one that might be hurting the platform, so let’s just hope that those rumors claiming Windows 10 Mobile is just around the corner are accurate and everyone on Windows Phone should receive the upgrade in the coming weeks.
