Gamers might also get access to a special event

The development team at Rockstar is announcing that all gamers who picked up Grand Theft Auto V will be able to play an entirely new mode called Running Back for the Online component, which is designed to celebrate the American football experience.

The official announcement explains that gamers will be split into two teams that will have 2 to 4 players and will be placed on opposing sides of a roadway.

A runner will be put behind the wheel of a Benefactor Panto and will need to move across the end zone line at the end of the highway, all the time protected by the offensive players who are using BF Biftas.

The defensive line uses the same car and needs to use their vehicles to block, crash and destroy the opposition, doing their best to make sure that the runner is unable to achieve his objective.

Gamers will be able to play the Running Back mode in GTA Online in three locations: Raton Canyon Bridge, La Mesa Bridge, and Zancudo Tunnel.

Gamers who want to see the experience in action before they try it out can watch Rockstar developers and special guests showing off the core mechanics at 5 PM Eastern Time.

The company also promises that it will showcase another Adversary mode in the open-world title.

The Running Back mode seems to be the only new addition coming to GTA Online for the Thanksgiving weekend, which will be disappointing for some fans who were also expecting T-shirts or weapons.

An event might run during the weekend with special rewards and discounts for some items.

The new experience can only be played on the PC, the Xbox One, and the PlayStation 4, and the development team seems to be unable to deliver any more new content on older home consoles, because of tech limitations.

Gamers have recently received Lowriders, more game mechanics

Rockstar has been working hard to offer a wide variety of new content for the open-world video game, with the most recent major update introducing an entirely new category of vehicles as well as more Adversary modes.

The studio understands that the fans can consume experiences faster than they can create them, and they are also introducing more options for the editing tools so that gamers can put together their content and share it.

Given the fact that both Halloween and Thanksgiving were honored with new content, it's very probable that players will also receive access to something special for Christmas and New Year.

Rockstar has already said that it has no more plans to create single-player downloadable content for GTA V.

The title has been a solid success on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, but sales took off when the studio introduced it on the newest home consoles from both Sony and Microsoft.

Gamers should expect to see more content for Grand Theft Auto V Online all through 2016 as Rockstar seeks to expand the install base for the game before it officially offers information about a potential sequel.
