French developer Spiders has just announced their new project: Steelrising. Revealed during Nacon Connect, not much is known about Steelrising even though developers have shown a trailer at the event.

Steelrising takes place in an alternate version of Paris during the French Revolution, which isn't surprising at all considering the developer behind the game is French. What's really interesting is that soldiers have been replaced with automatons, which are now terrorizing and suppressing the French people.

You play as Aegis, a robot female who is also Queen Marie-Antoinette's bodyguard. The blurb says that you'll be fighting to change the course of history while trying to find your creator and stop the atrocities carried out by Louis XIV's army of robots.

Although the trailer doesn't show any gameplay, publisher Nacon did offer some information about what's happening in Steelrising. For example, the developers claim that combat will be fluid, especially that Aegis' weapons will be fully integrated into her body.

Also, players will be able to upgrade all her weapons, and from what we understand there will be more than seven types of weapons throughout the game. Most of them are blades, but Steelrising will also feature rifles for range attacks.

Since the action takes place in Paris, there will be some famous locations that many players will recognize, as well as some that no longer exist, such as Grand Chatelet and Tour du Temple. There will be side quests that should add to the immersion, but will also let players find more gear and items.

Steelrising seems like a fine project, but we would have liked to see some gameplay during the show. In any case, it looks like Steelrising will be coming to PC and next-generation consoles, but a release timeframe has yet to be announced. Still, since it's supposed to come to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, it's more likely to be launched in 2021.
