And it costs only $399, despite its powerful hardware

If you want a super-portable laptop that can run either Windows 10 or Ubuntu, look no further than the GPD Pocket, which is a micro-size device coming with hardware that you thought it was impossible to fit into such a small case.

Published on IndieGogo and funded in record time, the GPD Pocket is a computer that comes with a 7-inch screen and has pretty much all the features that you typically find on a laptop, including a keyboard. Sure, it might be a challenge to write on a keyboard that small, but given the fact that it was developed to be extremely portable, this is just a minor drawback.

The device comes with pretty good hardware, and as you can see in the table below, GPD says that it has specifications that are at least similar to those of the Microsoft Surface or the Apple MacBook Air.

Technical specs

The 7-inch IPS display has a 1920x1200 resolution, and the laptop is powered by an Intel Atom x7-Z8700 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM. There’s 128GB storage, a 7000 mAh battery, and several connectivity ports, including USB Type-C, HDMI, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

You also get Wi-Fi support and Bluetooth 4.1, but there is no Ethernet port should you want to connect to the Internet using a wired connection.

As far as the operating systems are concerned, the Windows 10 choice makes sense anyway, but GPD says it also picked Ubuntu because it’s the perfect choice for working with documents, playing games on Steam, or developing software.

“Pocket supporting Ubuntu is to make it easier for programmers anytime and anywhere to program,” the parent company says in its post on IndieGogo.

The crowdfunding campaign will continue for another 2 months, and if you wish, you can donate $399 right now to secure a GPD Pocket once it becomes available in June 2017. Both the Ubuntu and the Windows 10 versions cost the same.
