THQ Nordic, the owner of the Gothic franchise, is trying to bring back the series with a remake. The publishers revealed back in 2019 plans to launch a remake of the original Gothic game. To that purpose, THQ Nordic released a playable teaser in December 2019 to gather feedback from fans of the RPG genre.

This week, THQ Nordic revealed the name of the studio that will make Gothic Remake happen: Alkimia Interactive. Before you get too hyped up, keep in mind that these projects usually take time, so even though work on Gothic Remake started back in summer 2020, it will probably take some years for the game to be ready.

Now, as far as the developer of the game goes, Alkimia Interactive is a new studio that belongs to THQ Nordic and headquartered in Barcelona, Spain. The studio is currently hiring, which means the project is likely to enter full production very soon.

We strive to build Alkimia Interactive as a top-notch RPG studio. Our ambition is to become one of the best addresses for PC/Console core game development in the South of Europe,” said Reinhard Pollice, Studio Head at Alkimia Interactive.”

Gothic Remake won't be the only project Alkimia Interactive will develop though, as the studio promises to “build high-quality RPGs.” Alkimia Interactive's first project, Gothic Remake is developed for PC and next-generation consoles, According to officials, development is well underway and the first results from all of the hard work the team has put in will be revealed in the next couple of months.

Until we get more details on the project, those who didn't yet play the teaser version of Gothic Remake can still do so for free via Steam. Keep in mind though that the playable teaser is only free for those who own any of the original Gothic games or any titles developed by Piranha Bytes.
