Play solo or co-op as one of the four knights

The next big project from Warner Bros. Games Montreal is a brand-new Batman game that seemingly lacks the vigilante hero. Batman: Gotham Knights focuses on Batman's family, the ones who Bruce Wayne, the wealthy American industrialist, nurtured under his wings: Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl, and Red Hood.

One might say that the folks at WB Games Montreal want to try something new and offer DC fans a breath of fresh air. Making a Batman game without Batman is a pretty bold move, but after three full-fledged Batman games, perhaps the series needs “a bit of something else.”

In Gotham Knights, players take the role of one of the four heroes – Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl, and Red Hood. Unlike the last three Batman games, Gotham Knights feature co-op for up to two players, and that's a major change.

The trailer launched last week reveals that Batman is dead and the four vigilantes must group to face the challenges that arise from the fact that Gotham is now without its most important protector.

The Court of Owls will be throwing a lot of baddies at Batman's allies, including supervillains like Mr. Freeze, who we're seeing in action in a gameplay trailer released by WB Games Montreal soon after the game's reveal.

Although we've got a quite relevant gameplay trailer that we can dissect, many aspects of the gameplay mechanics remain a mystery. What we know so far is that enemies in Gotham Knights will have levels and that players will be able to customize their heroes.

According to WB Games Montreal, Gotham Knights is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X in 2021. We'll probably get a release date, as well as more details about the game at some point next year.
