14 DAY TRIAL // Google has been paying a lot of attention to its most important applications recently, and it seems that Gmail has just received an update. As it turns out, Google has updated its Gmail application with responsive designs for emails.
In a blog post, Gmail's Product Manager Pierce Vollucci mentioned that Gmail and Inbox by Gmail would support emails created with responsive design starting later this month. This means that the content of emails will adapt to fit screens of all sizes.
In addition, text, links and buttons will have the capacity to enlarge and make reading and tapping easier on a smaller screen. Reading emails can be quite uncomfortable on small screens and Google intends to address this situation.
He stated that “these changes will make your email experience as comfortable and intuitive as possible. And as responsive design becomes more common, you’ll continue to see emails that fit better on all your screens and devices.”
Google provided email designers with tools for formatting their messages
Google also provided email designers with instructions on how to use CSS media queries with Gmail and Inbox by Gmail, as to make sure that their message is formatted properly and is accurately displayed on a computer, tablet or phone.
Email designers will be able to change styles based on width, rotation and resolution. Therefore, more responsive formatting will be provided to optimize emails for every device. Google is currently looking to expand CSS support in Gmail and offer email designers more tools to control how messages are displayed.
Just recently, Google updated Gmail for Android and web with security warnings which display a question mark on the sender's profile or avatar, so that the receiver would known that the sender couldn't be authenticated. Messages need to be authenticated with Sender Policy Framework or DKIM and when this fails, the receiver gets a warning.
