The application also supports video calls

Just two days ago, Google launched the global rollout of one of its most promising communications application, Google Duo, which has been rather well received, mainly thanks to its simplistic interface and straightforward features. Now it seems that the Mountain View-based giant is looking to add new features to the app.

One of the main advantages of Google's Duo app is that it offers an easy way to place video calls, without the hassle of adjusting multiple settings and going through a menu with various features. However, its simplistic feel might not be to the liking of some users, but Google is reportedly working on adding new features inside the application.

Surely, an app for video calls is quite useful in the universe of applications designed for all sorts of needs. Still, it's quite a shame that a company like Google would limit the usage of such a highly anticipated app to just video calls. Audio calls could soon arrive on Google Duo, according to +Amit Fulay, product lead for communications at Google.

Audio calls would be an alternative to video calling in Duo

Aside from the powerful features Duo already incorporates, audio call would surely make this application more appealing to users from all over the world. Google's Duo comes with a tool that allows the application to automatically scale the video quality based on the user's connection speed.

This means that the app has the capacity to switch from mobile data to WiFi if the connection isn't strong enough. The main advantage is that the application won't drop the call during the switch. Google's Duo might also fall back on audio-only if the connection gets too bad. In addition, the app would allow users to place only audio video calls if they wish.

The leak mentions that the new feature will be coming soon to the Google Duo app, but it's unsure when that might actually be. Google Duo was announced during Google I/O back in May, when the company also talked about a new messaging application, Allo, unreleased yet.
