“The problem was not intentional,” company rep says

If you’re a long-time Windows Phone user, you probably know that Google isn’t quite the biggest supporter of Microsoft’s mobile efforts, as the company has always refused to bring any of its apps on the platform, preferring instead to invest in Android and iOS.

And not only has Google declined to bring its apps on Windows phones, but every once in a while it also makes changes that affect the existing apps on Microsoft’s mobile operating system, and the most recent example involves Windows 10 Mobile’s email app.

Users who updated to the latest Windows 10 Mobile builds claim they were unable to configure Google accounts in the Outlook app, with the configuration process launching Microsoft Edge and ending up with an error saying the browser is not secure.

There were workarounds to address this problem, including manually adding all Gmail settings, but configuring contacts and calendar events was still a challenge.

Fix now available

Until today, that is, as Google has finally rolled out a fix for Windows 10 Mobile users and an apologetic statement to explain that it all happened accidentally - it’s funny that the Google rep actually said this, given the criticism coming from the Windows phone user community against the company for not bringing their apps to Windows Mobile.

“Sorry for this problem everyone, this was not intentional and has now been fixed. If you are still having trouble adding your Google account, please let me know,” a company representative has said on the forums when announcing that the problem should no longer be experienced.

And while this does sound like Google cares about Windows phones, do not expect anything else beyond this to happen, as the company is still very unlikely to bring any of its apps on the Windows 10 Mobile. As usual, the search giant remains tight-lipped on such a plan, even though users are still crying out loud for apps like Google Maps and Google Plus.
