Google recently announced two smartphones, the Pixel and Pixel XL, manufactured together with HTC. While rear camera capacity on the two smartphones isn’t the highest on the market, Google promised that the devices come with the best smartphone camera on the market.

To back up its claims, the company mentioned that Pixel cameras received the highest score ever from DxOMark, an industry standard for cameras and lens image quality measurements and ratings. Pixel cameras scored 89 points, slightly higher than Apple’s iPhone 7.

To show off the camera’s capabilities, Google posted several images taken by Isaac Reynolds, Google’s camera product executive. The collection of images with the “#NoFilter needed” tagline are available for download on Google Photos. They show the Pixel camera’s capacity to perform under multiple lighting conditions.

The images don’t seem to have been uploaded from a Pixel unit, as they lack EXIF data. Still, considering the clarity that each image offers, the pictures clearly don’t need any filters. The rear camera on the Pixel smartphones comes with a 12.3MP capacity, f/2.0 aperture, and the ability to record 4k videos at 30fps or 1080p videos at 120fps.

The DxOMark study showed that the smartphone provides accurate exposure with good contrast and white balance. However, it may have some inconsistencies when it comes to repeated autofocus. Other cons to the rear camera concern video recording, which could result in motion blur on walking scenes in low-light conditions.

As for the other features on the phones, Pixel comes with a 5.0-inch FHD AMOLED display and a 2,770mAh battery. It also has 4GB of RAM and runs a quad-core Snapdragon 821 processor. Front camera capacity reaches 8MP with f/2.4 aperture and fixed focus.

The Pixel XL, on the other hand, is slightly larger, with a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display, and battery capacity is also higher at 3,450mAh. The smartphones will be officially released on October 20, but they’re already available for pre-order on Verizon, Google Store and Best Buy.
