Google released the Pixel and Pixel XL flagships back in October last year and it seems that the tech giant plans to offer tech support for three years. This means that until October 2019, Pixel and Pixel XL owners will enjoy on-device tech support.

Until October 2019, Pixel and Pixel XL users can enjoy on-device tech support via the installed Settings app. At the same time, Google has confirmed that it will not offer security updates to Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones after October 2019.

Basically, Google won’t offer any security protection or tech support to users after the second half of 2019. In addition, the Pixel and Pixel XL won’t receive any major Android OS updates from October 2018, one year before security updates will stop arriving.

The new Pixel smartphones will run Android O out of the box

Later this year, Google is preparing to announce three new smartphones in the Pixel series, devices that will come with many improvements to last year’s models. The Pixel 2 could run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 836 or 835 platform and come with 4GB of RAM.

An alleged render of the Pixel 2 has recently leaked, suggesting a wide screen on the upcoming device, together with a vertical dual-camera setup on the back. However, there’s no confirmation that the phone will actually have two lenses on the back.

In addition, Pixel XL 2 was recently spotted in benchmark running Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and featuring 4GB of RAM. The phone also ran Android 7.1.1 Nougat, signaling the fact that Google is testing multiple prototypes and configurations for the new phone.

The three upcoming Pixel smartphones will most likely run the yet announced Android O, set to arrive possibly in August. That being said, Google already released the third Developer Preview for Android O, featuring many stability improvements and visual tweaks. The upcoming Android version will receive a name right before its official unveil.
