Pixel 3 booting to a Windows 10 console spotted online

After making its way to the old Lumia 950 XL, the Nintendo Switch, and a few other devices, Windows 10 for ARM has recently been spotted on a Google Pixel 3 XL, technically giving birth to a completely new type of Windows phone.

Of course, it’s not the Windows phone that fanboys dreamed about, but this new experiment shows that once again, with Windows 10 ARM possibilities are endless.

A video published on Twitter by NTAuthority shows that the project is still in its early days, and Windows 10 only boots to a console window for now. But as with every such little idea, this is just the beginning, and you should expect Windows 10 to run smoothly on the Pixel 3 XL once various issues are addressed.

One of them is dealing with the necessary drivers and getting everything to work correctly on the Pixel 3, but sooner or later, this should no longer be a problem.

“Windows phones”

And as I said before, don’t expect this to bring any real benefit to the end user because even if Windows 10 ends up running smoothly on the Google Pixel 3 XL, it still can’t be considered a mobile operating system and replace Android.

Microsoft, however, might have a few things to learn from all these little experiments, and the simple fact that Windows 10 runs everywhere these days should be living proof that mobile devices must be part of the company’s device portfolio.

For the time being, however, the online mobile device that could at some point see daylight at Microsoft is Surface Andromeda, which itself won’t be a smartphone either. It remains to be seen how work on the Pixel 3 XL “Windows phone” advances, but I bet it wouldn’t take too long until it’s seen up and running flawlessly.
