Google has just unveiled its Nexus smartphones, which will keep fans company for about a year or so. The Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are already available for pre-order via Google Play Store, but they will ship in late October.

According to Google, the Nexus 6P is the real flagship smartphone of the two, while the Nexus 5X is simply a sequel to the Nexus 5, which was very popular among Android fans.

Basically, this means that Google recommends customers who bought the Nexus 5 made by LG to upgrade to the new Nexus 5X, which is manufactured by the same handset maker.

The smartphones share quite a lot of specs and they will both run the brand new Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. In fact, the Nexus 5 might be one of the first smartphones to be powered by the new version of Android since Nexus 5X will only be launched on the market in late October.

When it comes to display, the Nexus 5X sports a slightly larger 5.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating. On the other hand, the Nexus 5 comes with a 4.95-inch display with the same resolution and glass protection.

Hardware-wise, the Nexus 5X is equipped with an updated 64-bit 1.8GHz hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, coupled with an Adreno 418 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

An updated chipset and larger battery

The Nexus 5 features a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 CPU, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

Both Nexus smartphones come with either 16GB or 32GB of internal memory but lack microSD card slot for storage expansion.

Another advantage of the Nexus 5X over the previous model is the 12.3-megapixel main camera that features laser autofocus, dual-LED flash and 4K video recording.

The original Nexus 5 comes with a 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash, OIS (optical image stabilization) and full HD (1080p) video recording.

Another difference between the two smartphones is the front-facing camera. The new Nexus smartphone packs a 5-megapixel camera in the front, while the original model comes with a modest 1.3-megapixel photo snapper.

Also, the Nexus 5X comes with USB Type-C port and a non-removable 2,700 mAh battery, while the Nexus 5 is powered by a 2,300 mAh battery and features wireless charging.

There are downsides and advantages to owning either of the two smartphones, so depending on what you treasure most, you might be determined to upgrade to the new Nexus 5X or not.
