Following sophisticated cyberattacks that targeted critical infrastructure, organizations and governments around the world, Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, IBM and Google pledged to invest a total of $30 billion in cybersecurity advances over the next 5 years, according to The Hacker News

US plans to develop a framework to improve the supply chain technologies and broaden CISA's role in safeguarding natural gas pipelines. A meeting was held in this sense at the While House that included top representatives from various US companies who agreed to help improve cybersecurity.

The pledges come following repeated high-profile cyberattacks on SolarWinds, Microsoft, Colonial Pipeline, JBS, and Kaseya in recent months. U.S. President Joe Biden also issued an executive order pushing federal agencies to strengthen their cybersecurity systems.

Tech titans plan to fight for greater cybersecurity via investments:

Given the circumstances, top companies decided to step in and some even announced future investments that can aid the U.S. common goal. For starters, Google is investing more than $10 billion to strengthen zero-trust programs, improve open-source security and protect software supply chains. Amazon plans to further protect Amazon Web Service (AWS) clients against phishing attempts via a free multi-factor authentication device.

Apple is currently negotiating with thousands of suppliers and plans to adopt multifactor authentication, security event monitoring, and security training. IBM announced that they are offering cybersecurity training in the nest 3 years and are already in the talks with several schools and universities.Microsoft plans to assist federal, state, and local security agencies directly with their defensive needs and even dedicated around $20 billion over the next five years for this purpose.

Regardless of the hard work and investments, let's not forget that initiatives need some time before they can be put in practice. Nevertheless, it's a good start as after all a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
