Google released the redesigned app two weeks ago

Last month, Google revealed the redesigned Google Keyboard app in the Play Store, bringing new features and improvements under the Gboard name. The application has just hit the 500 million downloads mark in the Google Play Store.

Gboard is now part of the group of apps that surpassed half a billion downloads, alongside Google Photos, Dropbox, YouTube and Skype. Google’s Allo has yet to surpass the 50 million downloads mark.

Obviously, Gboard didn’t reach 500 million installs in two weeks, but the latest update was enough to push the downloads number past the milestone. A third-party keyboard that comes close to Gboard’s score is GO Keyboard with emoji and sticker support.

For those out of the loop, Gboard is a full-featured keyboard application that supports more than 120 languages and comes with multilingual typing features for switching between languages manually. Moreover, it has lots of autocorrect options, as well as tools for manually adding words to a personal dictionary.

Gboard supports GIFs and emojis

As expected, Gboard comes with support for GIFs and emojis, and you can use the keyboard to search and share GIFs with friends. You simply need to type in the word that describes the emoji, instead of having to swipe left or right to find it in the gallery.

The latest update to Gboard brought Glide Typing, which allows you to simply slide your finger across the keyboard in order to type words. It’s much faster and the app comes with enhanced word prediction tools for figuring out the word that you’re trying as you glide your finger from letter to letter.

Voice typing makes it easy to dictate words on the go, without having to press letters on the keyboard. Gboard lets you search and share anything from Google, including stores, restaurants, videos, images, weather forecasts, news articles, sports scores, and much more.
