The solution might be provided via a software update

Android fans who bought the Pixel/Pixel XL have access to some exclusive features that aren't available on any other smartphone, not even in Google's Nexus lineup. For example, Google included a fingerprint sensor gesture where Pixel/Pixel XL users can “swipe” it to access the notification shade.

However, this feature hasn't been provided on the Nexus devices yet. Although many Nexus owners claimed that their phones' hardware should support this specific gesture, things aren't as simple as we might think at first glance.

The good news is Google might have taken all this feedback into consideration and there's a slight chance that it will make the fingerprint scanner gesture available on at least two other Nexus devices.

According to AndroidPolice, Google's PR has confirmed that the search giant is “evaluating” a firmware update for the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, which is supposed to add support for the fingerprint scanner gesture that's now exclusively available on the Pixel phones.

Obviously, this isn't a confirmation that Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P owners should expect to get the fingerprint scanner gesture very soon, but at least there's hope that another feature that's been provided to Pixel users will be available for a larger audience.

This isn't the only feature that Google hasn't enable on its Nexus phones, though, which suggests that the search giant really wants as many as Nexus users to switch to its new Pixel phones in order to benefit from all the functionalities they have to offer.

For example, the Pixel Launcher is currently exclusive to Pixel phones, even though, to some extent, the development scene has found a way to include it on other smartphones as well.

No additional details on the possible firmware update for the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P have been provided by Google, but they did say that we should “stay tuned” for more information on the matter, so fingers crossed.
