It would appear that Google has recently updated the official web page of its Android O Developer Preview program with more details on the release schedule of the upcoming Android 8.0 mobile operating system.

Development on Android 8.0 started early this Spring with the first Developer Preview, which already gave users a first glimpse of what to expect from the next major update of the operating system used by millions of people worldwide, and the second Developer Preview (DP) arrived in mid-May with more goodies.

Last month, Google also released a third Developer Preview milestone to Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, Pixel C, Pixel, and Pixel XL devices, incorporating the final APIs and the official Android 8.0 SDK, and it now looks like the fourth and last Developer Preview is expected sometime later this month offering near-final system images for final testing.

Android 8.0 will launch in Q3 2017 and could be dubbed "Oreo"

Google now confirms that the final release of its Android 8.0 mobile operating system will launch in Q3 2017 to AOSP and ecosystem, first being made available only to some of its supported devices, including Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL, as well as Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.

The Pixel C tablet and Nexus Player digital media player running Android TV should also get the upcoming Android 8.0 update, which it is rumored to be dubbed by Google as "Oreo." No official date was announced for the final release of Android 8.0, but we have all the reasons to believe that it will land sometime in August.

Android 8.0 "Oreo" is expected to ship with numerous exciting new features, including Picture-in-Picture (PiP) support, app badges, notification dots, autofill support, better text selection, a much-improved notifications system, and many other goodies that will be revealed during its official launch.
