Chrome is running on over 67% of desktop computers

The browser battle has become a lot fiercer since Microsoft relaunched Microsoft Edge powered by the Chromium engine, but this doesn’t necessarily mean Google Chrome is ready to give up on the leading position.

Not at all, and data provided by StatCounter for March 2022 shows Chrome continues to be the king of desktop browsers with a share of no less than 67.29 percent.

In other words, Chrome is running on close to 7 in 10 PCs out there, and this is impressive, to say the least, especially since most of these PCs are running Windows, in the first place.

Windows comes with either Internet Explorer (on old versions) or Microsoft Edge (on newer versions) as the default browser, so 7 in 10 users gave up on Microsoft’s application and went for Google Chrome.

Firefox is now fourth in the charts

On the other hand, the modern version of Microsoft Edge is also gaining traction. As Neowin has also observed, Edge is now the second most-used desktop browser with a share of 9.65 percent. It’s obviously very far from challenging Google Chrome’s domination, but on the other hand, it has already managed to overtake rivals Firefox and Safari.

At this point, Safari continues to be the third most popular choice with a share of 9.56 percent, while Firefox is only fourth in the charts with 7.57 percent. Opera is far behind with 2.81 percent.

Worth emphasizing, however, is that Safari is only installed on macOS, as a Windows version is no longer offered. Its market share shows that most Apple users stick with the default browser and don’t install third-party alternatives like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Without a doubt, Chrome will continue to be the preferred choice for many more years, but it’ll certainly be interesting to see how fast Microsoft Edge ends up going in the long term.
