Google acknowledges Chrome bug on Windows 10

If you’re using Google Chrome on Windows 10, and there’s a chance you do given this browser has a nearly 70 percent market share on the desktop, you may have recently noticed that the app crashes all of a sudden for no clear reason.

The good news is that you’re not alone, as plenty of other Chrome users are complaining of similar issues, with Chrome simply crashing on Windows 10 out of the blue.

Google originally acknowledged the problem on Friday, and now the company has come up with a fix, explaining that users can very well fix the whole thing on their own.

But more importantly, it looks like the same problem exists not only on Windows but on Linux too, and Google has provided workarounds for each platform.

“On May 21, we began to receive reports that Chrome would crash unexpectedly for some Windows and Linux users. After conducting an investigation, we've identified the root cause and have released an update which resolves the behavior. In order to receive the update to Chrome, please follow the steps below,” Google said on its Chrome forums.

The official fix

Google has provided a rather simple workaround for Windows users.

The company says users first need to quit all Chrome windows and then re-open the browser, which will trigger the broken behavior on Windows devices. Google says you need to keep Chrome open for approximately 5 minutes and then quit the browser and relaunch it. “The behavior should now be resolved,” the company explains.

In the meantime, it looks like the beta version of Google Chrome also resolves the whole thing, so there’s a chance everything would return to normal when Google releases the next stable update for the browser. So if you’re part of the beta program, there’s a good chance you won’t see the bug.
