Dark mode currently in the works for Chrome browser

The next version of Google Chrome browser will include a dark mode for macOS Mojave as well, which means that the application will align with the visual style now available in the operating system.

Dark themes are the next big thing on both desktops and mobile devices, and most software developers are updating their applications to include this particular appearance that’s considered much easier on the eyes, especially during the night.

And Google doesn’t make any exception, as the search giant is working on adding a dark theme for its browser in the next major release.

Google Chrome 71 was released only a few days ago, but as macOS users found out the hard way, no dark mode is implemented. But as discovered on reddit, a code change was already submitted a few days ago, suggesting that the dark mode will be included in Chrome 72 rolling out in early 2019.

Microsoft also working on macOS browser

Dark theme support for macOS Mojave will be added in the Chromium engine that powers Google Chrome and several other browsers, which means that many other applications should come with this feature at some point in the future.

Microsoft, which is also working on a Chromium-based browser to replace Microsoft Edge, has already confirmed that it would be bringing its new application to macOS when it’s ready. Most likely, a dark theme will be offered as well as part of the browser’s feature lineup.

At this point, there are no specifics as to when Microsoft’s new browser is projected to be finalized, but a preview is expected in early 2019 for Windows 10 users.

Users on macOS Mojave can switch to a dark theme in Chrome with a third-party extension, though it goes without saying that a native implementation would come in handy to everyone. For now, you can get Chrome 71 for macOS from Softpedia using this link.
