The tweet was rapidly removed a few minutes later

Google has recently launched the Google Pixel 7, so the company is working non-stop on promoting the device. And occasionally, these marketing efforts involve making fun of rivals.

In Google’s case, the company to mock is none other than Apple, and this is precisely what the search giant tried to do a few days ago. And boy, the whole thing backfired quickly.

The Google Pixel Twitter account wanted to make fun of Apple’s use of the #TakeNote hashtag, so it posted a message on its own.

“Hmmm ok, I See You. #TakeNote @NBA fans…#TeamPixel is here to get you closer to your favorite team – tell us yours and we might be able to make your NBA Tip-Off even better,” the Google Pixel team tweeted.

So far, so good. This kind of marketing strategy are rather common in the tech world, and in many ways, they are actually pretty cool because it shows that even the largest companies in the industry have a sense of humor.

But eagle-eyed Twitter user Ian Zelbo rapidly noticed (via 9to5Mac) that what the Google Pixel team used for posting the message was an… iPhone. The Twitter for iPhone tag showed up at the end of the tweet to reveal that the message came from an Apple device. In other words, Google, which has recently launched its latest and greatest Pixel phone, wanted to mock the iPhone, but even its staff uses the Apple device.

Unsurprisingly, the tweet was almost instantly taken down before too many people got a chance to notice the blunder. It was later reposted from Twitter for Web, and not from Twitter for Android as many people would expect given the new Pixel. Of course, the search company has remained completely tight-lipped about this blunder.
