Google has just announced it has decided to add Myanmar to the list of countries where its Android One program is available for customers. In order to bring Android One smartphones to this country, Google confirmed it has teamed up with handset maker Cherry Mobile.

Myanmar is the eight country where Google introduces its Android One program, which debuted about nine months ago in India.

Soon after the first Android One smartphones hit shelves in India, Google launched its program in additional countries, including Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, the Philippines and Turkey.

“If you live in Myanmar and use the Internet, chances are you do so with a smartphone. In fact, if you’re chatting with friends, catching up on the news, snapping a selfie, shooting a video, or sharing the latest via social media, you’re probably using a smartphone for all of those things, too.

“As so many others do around the world, the people of Myanmar love the functionality and freedom that a smartphone provides,” said Google in a blog post.

An affordable Lollipop smartphone aimed a low-tier market

The first smartphone in the Android One lineup that will be available in Myanmar is called Cherry Mobile One and will ship with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box.

The smartphone will offer users the full Android stock experience, including Material Design UI, up to 2x better performance, a battery-saver feature, smarter notifications, as well as quick access to data controls.

Hardware-wise, the Cherry Mobile One is equipped with a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582M processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory.

The smartphone also sports a 4.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 854 x 480 pixels resolution. It also comes with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, as well as a secondary 2-megapixel camera in the front.

According to Google, the Cherry Mobile One will be available in Myanmar beginning June 26 for Ks 109,000 outright, which is about $100 or €85.
