The Google I/O keynote brought about various announcements on Google’s recent projects and features that users can expect to see in products. Thus, the tech giant revealed a number of new tools for its virtual AI Assistant, but also its plans to expand Daydream and launch a standalone VR headset.

But Google I/O is also the place where the winners of Google Play Awards are announced. This year, multiple applications competed in a number of 12 categories, including Best App, Best Game, and Best VR Experience.

The list of nominees included both free and paid applications listed in the Play store and Google made sure to pick only the apps that had high user ratings and were quite popular among users of Android-running smartphones and tablets.

Memrise wins Best App award

All apps in the list of winners aim at providing users with the best experience and really helping them perform various tasks. That being said, Mushroom 11 wins the category of Standout Indie, while Hooked gets the award for Standout Startup.

Runtastic Running and Fitness gets the award for Best Android Wear Experience, in the detriment of Foursquare. In the category of Best TV Experience, Red Bull TV takes the first prize, while Virtual Virtual Reality offers the Best VR Experience in the Play Store. For the Best AR Experience, Google advises users to try Woorld, while the Best App for Kids is Animal Jam - Play Wild!

Hearstone wins in the category of Best Multiplayer Game, while Memrise takes the award for Best App in the store. In addition, Transformers: Forged to Fight surprisingly does better than Pokemon GO or Super Mario Run and snatches the award for Best Game.

When it comes to the Best Accessibility Experience section, IFTTT gets the award and we can’t say we’re surprised. Ever since it launched, IFTTT has seen a great adoption rate among Android users, giving them lots of tools to enhance their mobile experience. The last category is Best Social Impact, won by ShareTheMeal. All winners and nominees are featured in a special section on the Play Store.
