Even more tab options coming to Chrome in future updates

Google is projected to release a highly-anticipated feature for Chrome browser as soon as this week, but as it turns out, there’s more to come from the search giant on this front.

More specifically, the next Google Chrome version will allow users on the desktop to organize tabs in groups, which they can name using their own custom tags.

And while this new option certainly comes in handy especially for those who work with many tabs in the same window, there’s something even more useful coming to these users.

TechDows has discovered a new flag in the Canary version of Google Chrome which essentially makes it possible for everyone to collapse the tab groups.

Other Chromium browsers

In other words, once you create a tab group, you can collapse all tabs under the tag that you use for the name. This means that you are allowed to collapse and expand the tab group pretty fast, most likely with just a click on the name of the group.

Again, this is a feature that will make working with multiple tabs even more convenient. Google is currently experimenting with an early implementation of the whole thing in the latest Canary version of the browser, so for the time being, it’s not known when the company is projected to bring it to the market in a production version of Chrome.

On the other hand, tab groups have been around for a while in other browsers, including in Vivaldi, which is also based on the Chromium engine. But Google’s new feature is likely to be used by others too, including Microsoft Edge which is now running on the same engine as well. For now, the feature is still in experimental stage, so it will probably receive more polishing before the go-ahead is given for the production debut.
