Although Sony hasn't yet officially introduced its next-generation gaming console like Microsoft did last week, the first game coming to PlayStation 5 has already been revealed at The Game Awards. Godfall is an action RPG developed by Counterplay Games, a studio with several people who worked on games like Destiny 2.

According to Keith Lee, the CEO of Counterplay Games, Godfall is a looter-slasher that's inspired by The Stormlight Archive, The First Law and the Foundation series, while gameplay-wise it will strongly resemble the Monster Hunter series.

Our goal with Godfall is to reforge fantasy ARPG-style loot progression and third-person melee combat into a whole new genre: The Looter-Slasher. Namely, our game is uniquely one-part gear driven and one-part player-skill driven. Godfall retains the desire for offense-oriented, mastery-driven combat, rewarding you with head-turning, powerful loot that then inspires your next set of character builds,” said Keith Lee.

The folks at Counterplay Games promise a fluid, dynamic and interactive third-person melee combat, which favors offense over defense. It's also important to mention that Godfall has been designed from the ground up with co-op in mind.

The game can be played from beginning to end in solo, duo or trio. Depending on the group size, the monsters you'll face will respond dynamically, mutating their behavior and attack patterns. Three character classes will be available for players to choose from, based on the armor sets they can equip.

Godfall is set in a high-fantasy setting, split into the realms of Earth, Water, Air, Fire, and Spirit, where players take the role of one of the last exalted Knight's Order to prevent a major apocalyptic event.

That's all we know about the game for now, but developer Counterplay Games confirmed the game will be launched on PlayStation 5 in holiday 2020. Also, more details about Godfall are expected to be unveiled next spring.
