The developers are working to improve it considerably

The GNOME software stack is home to a lot of applications and Notes is just one of them. The developers are looking to make some serious improvements to it in order to make it more appealing and more useful.

Some of you might know the Notes app after its previous name, Bijiben. It has been changed a while back, and the same happened with many of the other components. Nautilus became files; Totem became Videos, Baobab can be found under the name Disk Usage Analyzer, and so on. This helps new users better identify the tools that they need, and Bijiben doesn't really scream Notes.

Now developers are looking to make some serious improvement to Notes, beyond the functions that are already present. It's not enough to just be able to store some notes and have some basic editing tools, but users might want to have a little bit more, and they will get it.

What are the devs planning for GNOME Notes

If you have a GNOME desktop, then you probably already tried the Notes apps and you might be wondering what could they do better. It feels like a modern app, and it has quite a few features, but it turns out it could be better.

"The Notes app aims be a simple and effective note taking application. It has the basic features you’d expect from a notes app, such as formatting, search and a trash bin. You can also organise your notes into separate notebooks. It also has some other features that you might not be aware of, such as the ability to import notes from Tomboy (or Gnote), and integration with ownCloud and memos (as provided by Evolution), so you can keep your notes online," said GNOME developer Alan Day

Some of the new features that will land in Notes include more online storage, better grid and list views, and many more editing tools like width layout, and an action bar for formatting options.
