The GNOME Project announced today that the first point release of the latest GNOME 3.34 desktop environment is now available for download with various bug fixes and updated translations.

Released last month on September 12th, the GNOME 3.34 "Thessaloniki" desktop environment introduced many new features and enhancements, such as support for custom folders in the application overview, visual refreshes for several apps and the desktop itself, as well as lots of performance improvements.

Now, almost a month later, GNOME 3.34.1 has been released as the first of many to come maintenance updates to make the GNOME 3.34 desktop environment more stable and reliable, but also to encourage GNU/Linux distributions to adopt it in their software repositories as lots of bugs have been squashed. A complete list with all the changes included in GNOME 3.34.1 are available here.

"GNOME 3.34.1 is now available. This is a stable release containing four weeks' worth of bugfixes since the 3.34.0 release. Since it only contains bugfixes, all distributions shipping 3.34.0 should upgrade," said Michael Catanzaro on behalf of the GNOME Release Team.

GNOME 3.34.2 expected to be released on November 23rd

The next point release of the GNOME 3.34 desktop environment will be GNOME 3.34.2, which is expected to be released next month on November 23rd, along with the second development snapshot of the upcoming GNOME 3.36 desktop environment series, due for release next year on March 11th.

Meanwhile, we recommend all users to update their installations to GNOME 3.34.1 as soon as the packages land in the stable software repositories of their favorite GNU/Linux distributions. Experienced users can also compile GNOME 3.34.1 using the official BuildStream project snapshot or the source packages.
