14 DAY TRIAL // Gionee tipped the launch of its flagship smartphone, the S8, a few weeks ago. For the second time in its existence, the Chinese company introduced its most expensive smartphone at Mobile World Congress trade fair.
The Gionee S8 has been officially unveiled earlier today, but it's unclear whether or not the smartphone will be launched outside China. We do know the flagship will be available for purchase from later March for only €450.
If you were wondering why a flagship smartphone is priced under €500, here is a full rundown of the Gionee S8 specs, as announced by the Chinese company.
First of all, the S8 comes with 5.5-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports Full HD (1080p) resolution and features 2.5D glass coating.
It's also worth mentioning that the phone's display features Force Touch, a function that's been made popular by Apple's iPhone 6s. According to Gionee, the S8's Force Touch works with all its stock apps, but the Chinese company promised to expand functionality in the coming months.
Dual-SIM support and advanced 16MP camera
The flagship comes equipped with an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor, coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal memory, but there's no mention of microSD card slot.
Another exciting feature announced by Gionee is the possibility to log into two WhatsApp Messenger accounts on the S8.
Gionee S8 boasts an impressive 16-megapixel photo snapper with laser focus and phase-detection autofocus, as well as LED flash and video recording. Furthermore, the S8 is powered by a 3,000 mAh battery that features fast charging at 18W.
The Chinese company claims the Gionee S8 is the narrowest smartphone with a 5.5-inch display at just 74.9mm. Also, the S8 features a full-metal design and dual-SIM support.
Last but not least, the S8 ships with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system and Gionee's Amigo 3.2 custom skin, but the next 4.0 build is expected to arrive in June.
