Marathon M5 is one of Gionee's most unusual smartphones since it comes with a massive battery that should provide users with many days of continuous usage.

The rest of the phone's specs are standard for a mid-range phablet, but they seem to have been overpriced a little by Gionee.

Gionee Marathon M5 was launched in China a few months ago for 2,299 yuan ($345 / €325) outright, which is quite a lot, judging by the phone's specs.

That being said, customers in India should know that Gionee plans to introduce its mid-range phablet with a huge battery in the country on November 24.

There's no word on price yet, but Gionee will probably sell the Marathon M5 in India for the same price as the Chinese version.

It's also worth mentioning the smartphone will be available in three colors options (black, gold and white), a new report confirms.

Moving on to specs, the most appealing feature is the massive 6,020 mAh battery, which is rated by the manufacturer for up to 62 hours of standby time when it's just 5% charged.

It can be used as a powerbank for other devices

If you plan on getting the handset, don't be surprised if you find two batteries inside the Marathon M5. Gionee has decided to split the huge 6,020 mAh battery into two 3,010 mAh batteries that charge at the same time.

Moreover, Gionee Marathon M5's battery can also be used as a powerbank for other devices, and features dual charging chips.

Hardware-wise, the smartphone comes equipped with a 64-bit 1.5GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735 processor, a Mali-T760 graphics processing unit, and 2GB of RAM.

Also, the Marathon M5 packs 16GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card slot.

It sports a large 5.5-inch AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution. On the back, Gionee's mid-range smartphone packs a 13-megapixel photo snapper, while on the front there's a secondary 5-megapixel camera for selfies.

Last but not least, Gionee Marathon M5 will ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system onboard and Amigo UI 3.1 on top.
