Through the addition of a sidebar admin menu, Ghost now kind of looks like WordPress, but better looking

Ghost, the blogging platform created by WordPress' former designer, has now reached version 0.7.0, and the platform is constantly changing as new features are being added to its core.

After delighting bloggers with its simple editor, simplified admin panel, and beautiful graphics, version 0.7.0 arrives, and it completely overhauls the admin panel many of its users loved.

While the change is not as radical as you'd think, a regular Ghost blogger will definitely notice it once he upgrades.

The admin menu has been moved to the side

First and foremost, the admin panel now uses a lighter coloring scheme, ditching the dark top navigation menu.

This very same menu doesn't even exist anymore, the Ghost developers choosing to add a sidebar instead, just like the one used with WordPress.

While the old top menu was convenient and quick to get to, it became cumbersome to work with as new options were being added to it.

Now the former top menu resides on the sidebar, where its options can be listed much more easily, with enough space available for adding new items in future versions.

A better admin search function

And since there's now more space in the admin panel with the addition of a sidebar, the team has also decided to add a search bar, which makes it much faster to explore older posts.

To make things go smoother, the search bar doesn't waste time redirecting users to new pages but shows results in a drop-down panel, which is updated with new content in real-time, as the editor is typing his text.

This lets users click the item they want and start editing it right away.

And as an extra feature also added in version 0.7.0, adding "/edit" at the end of any frontend URL forces that page into its backend editing mode. Now that's something that WordPress really needs to implement ASAP.

You can download Ghost from Softpedia or from its GitHub repository.
