George R.R. Martin sets the record straight, says there's no “Game of Thrones” movie being made

Fans of the hit HBO series “Game of Thrones” thought their biggest dream had come true when quotes supposedly coming from a recent interview with George R.R. Martin, the author of “Song of Ice and Fire” on which the series is based, confirmed that HBO was working on a standalone movie.

It looked as if Martin had confirmed plans for the film, which, he said, would be a prequel that would tie in with the story told on the TV show and bring back some of the characters that we’ve seen killed off. He was also quoted as saying that he wouldn’t be involved in it because he was too busy writing the remaining novels in the series.

For the record, rumors about a possible tie-in movie have been around for years, but have only started picking up more speed in the last two or so.

That’s all it took for fans to start speculating on what the film might be about. A popular guess was Robert’s Rebellion, which, of course, would have seen Sean Bean reprise his role as Ned Stark, aka the first major character to be killed off on GoT.

Here’s Martin to break fans’ hearts all over again: there is no movie coming. In a comment on his blog, he calls the quote attributed to him “completely false,” and adds, “No one is working on any movie just now. And if there was a movie, it would not be about Robert’s Rebellion.”
