It looks like the game is poorly optimized for AMD

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition was released on the PC, but it looks like it’s a really bad DirectX 12 game and it’s going to do some damage to Microsoft’s re-entry into the PC world.

Microsoft has upset the gaming community with its plans to bring some of its own games, which were exclusive to Xbox One, to the PC. You might think that porting or developing games for the PC as well would be good news, but Microsoft is bringing these titles only with the Windows Store.

The company is trying to use these games as leverage to promote Windows 10 and DirectX 12, but this plan is not going too well for the company. The Windows Store is a mess full of really bad games, it’s full of bugs and not the best platform for gaming. Still, Microsoft continues to push gamers in this direction. The latest Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is proof that for now it is the wrong choice.

You better not be an AMD user

It has been revealed that AMD users can’t really play Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, at least not with Ambient Occlusion option for some of the latest AMD video cards. According to a report on forbes.com, the game is pretty much unplayable with many of the latest AMD video cards.

This was supposed to be Microsoft’s debut of Xbox One ported games, along with Quantum Break, but things are not going well. In fact, it’s pretty much a disaster all around. The Windows Store is a closed system, which brought on criticism from the community, and even from the original developers of Gears of War, Epic Games.

As you can imagine, Valve is also criticizing the new system, although it looks like the Steam community is much harsher in its criticism. Unfortunately, we all know how Microsoft operates, and they are not going to change the way they do business, especially since they really like to control the platform.
