Video game developer The Coalition and publisher Microsoft are announcing that they plan to launch the new Gears of War 4 on October 11 on the Xbox One home console and that they are aiming to make the coming beta a test for some of the new tech that will be used by the shooter.

The Xbox Wire announcement explains that the two companies will make sure that some of the multiplayer infrastructure is thoroughly stressed by the player community when those who played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition get access on April 18.

The multiplayer beta for Gears of War 4 will be open to all those who have an Xbox Live account on April 25, and the development team is looking for a lot of feedback from all the gamers who take part.

The Xbox Wire announcement, “Harkening back to the dark and intense roots of the original classic, fans can expect a familiar, yet distinct evolution of gameplay, including brutal and intimate action, a heart-pounding campaign, genre-defining multiplayer and stunning visuals powered by Unreal Engine 4.”

The Coalition says that it is planning to deliver more details about the story and the gameplay that will define the new video game before the end of the month.

Gears of War 4 will offer split-screen across all game modes

Rod Fergusson, who has long been in charge of the series, says that the feature can be enabled in all areas of the game and that it will lead to the frame rate of the title dropping to 30 from the normal 60 FPS.

The game creator says this is one of the defining features of the shooter that the company could never part with, but the version included will only support two players who are sitting on the same couch.

Fergusson also says that the coming beta will explore some of the new ideas that define Gears of War 4.

The story of the first title in the franchise created for the Xbox One from the ground up will focus on JD Fenix, the son of Marcus, who will join two friends in order to explore the threat coming from a new enemy called The Swarm.

The Coalition will keep the core third-person shooter structure of the game, with a focus on cover, but will also introduce new elements, including a new weather system that will tweak the way battles play out.

All the action will happen in 24 hours and will explore some of the horror elements that the first game in the series featured.
