Battleborn is a new multiplayer FPS from Gearbox Software, the developers of the Borderlands franchise. A technical closed Beta is set to start on October 29.

Gearbox has been busy fixing other people's work in the past few years, and it did not work for them. Neither Aliens: Colonial Marines nor Duke Nukem has been very well received. The studio still has the recognition of the community for the great Borderlands series, but that will end sooner or later. The studio needs a clear win and Battleborn needs to be that win.

From the looks of it, a lot of major studios and publishers are concentrating on multiplayer FPS games, and it's just a matter of time until the market becomes saturated. We already have Star Wars Battlefront from EA and Overwatch from Blizzard, and now we get Battleborn from Gearbox Software.

The interesting thing is that all of them have the potential to be game changers, so it's going to be a tight competition. On the other hand, Star Wars Battlefront will launch soon, so it will have a head start.

Battleborn will be here in just a few months

"Battleborn releases February 9, 2016 – that much you already knew – but a select group of gamers won’t have to wait very long to play Battleborn. Will you be one of them? Starting on October 29 we will need your help conducting a series of Closed Technical Tests on PS4, XBOX ONE, and PC to balance characters, stress servers, squash bugs, and test the online infrastructure. So, if you’re interested in helping us test out Battleborn and want to be one of the first people in the world to get their hands on this new breed of first-person shooters," reads the official announcement.

Potential players will need to have Windows 7 or later, at least Intel Core2 Extreme CPU Q6850 or AMD A8-3870k, 6 GB or RAM, 10 GB of free space, 2 GB of video memory, and AMD HD 7700/ NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 or better.

As usual, if you get into the Beta, you'll sign an NDA and users will have to agree not to capture gameplay footage, do any kind of live streaming, post images, or publicly discuss the technical test on the internet. All fun stuff.

You can join the Beta from the official website.
