Peter Robinson says Gwen wouldn’t accept Gavin was bi

In 2009, a cross-dressing male pop star named Peter “Marilyn” Robinson, famous on the London gay scene in the ‘80s and ‘90s, came out saying that he had been Gavin Rossdale’s lover for 5 whole years back when Bush was just getting started in the industry.

Rossdale denied the relationship for months, before finally admitting in a 2010 interview that, indeed, he had experimented with Robinson. However, he said, it was just a one-time thing he had done when he was 17, because he was bi-curious.

He’s lying, Robinson says in a new interview with Radar Online. Not accepting that he was bisexual was what ruined his marriage to Gwen Stefani.

Gavin confided in Robinson

According to Robinson, he and Gavin kept in contact through the years even though Gavin’s wife, Gwen, banned him from it. Word has it that the news that her husband was bi came as a shock to her and that she never really accepted it for a fact, in the sense that she told him to “choose” to be straight.

Rossdale confirmed the Robinson fling to the media, but in their home, they would never discuss about it, as if not speaking of it made it less real.

Not being able to embrace who he was and being forced to pretend that he wasn’t bi ruined Gavin, his former male lover alleges. In time, it also ruined his marriage.

According to Robinson, Gavin confided in him some weeks before the divorce announcement, taking full responsibility for the way things ended. Had Gwen been more open and Gavin more honest, their marriage would have truly been of the “till death do us part” variety.

“[Gwen] didn’t want to know or acknowledge certain things about him. She wanted to edit his past and he wanted to as well. But how do you go into a relationship and not be 100 percent honest?” Robinson says. “You can’t have an ongoing stable relationship being untruthful or unaccepting. I just don’t get it. If you’re not honest, and especially if you’re with someone who is extremely successful and in the public eye, it’ll come out of the woodwork.”

13-year marriage plagued by rumors and lies

Gwen and Gavin were married for 13 years and though they would often put up a united front to the media, appearing as one of the most solid couples in showbiz, they weathered plenty of scandals in their time together.

Before the gay scandal, less than 2 years into the marriage, Gwen found out that Gavin had a 16-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, of whom she had exactly zero knowledge.

Cheating rumors also made their way in the tabloids quite regularly, but they were never truly confirmed.

As Robinson puts it, from a distance, it seems that whatever trouble they faced, it had a lot to do with the fact that Gavin would not be completely honest with Gwen.
