This is likely the next smartwatch from Garmin

While the world is waiting for the next Fenix, Garmin seems to have other plans in mind. The company is currently giving the finishing touches to a new smartwatch that could hit the shelves as the Garmin Venu 2 Plus. And new renders published today provide us with an early look at this device.

Considering its name, there’s a very good chance the Garmin Venu 2 Plus is based on the Garmin Venu 2, so the design and the feature lineup wouldn’t be much different.

The renders published by Evan Blass indicate the smartwatch would sport a 43mm screen, so in theory, this new model would join Garmin’s lineup between the Venu 2S, which comes with a 40mm display, and the main Venu 2 launched in a 45mm size.

While the entire feature lineup isn’t yet available, the Venu 2 Plus seems to boast the essential package anyway.

For example, the device will most likely rely heavily on touch input, unlike Garmin’s flagship Fenix lineup that still uses side buttons for browsing. However, it looks like the Venu 2 Plus would boast three side buttons as compared to the two buttons on the previous model.

Launch likely in January

A stainless steel design paired with Gorilla Glass is obviously used, and this isn’t necessarily a surprise given Garmin has been using this approach for quite some time. It will also offer water resistance of up to 50 meters, and this seems to suggest the Venu 2 Plus will also support swim tracking just like several other Garmin smartwatches.

GPS and GNSS support will be available too, and obviously, the Venu 2 Plus will integrate a heart-tracking sensor as well. The traditional Garmin connector for charging will continue to be used.

There’s no information as to when the Venu 2 Plus could launch and how much it’s going to cost, but rumor has it the device could be unveiled as soon as January, possibly at CES.

Here’s a summary of what we know so far about the Venu 2 Plus:

  • 43mm smartwatch
  • Gorilla Glass
  • Stainless steel body
  • 50m water resistance
  • Swimming tracking
  • Silicon strap offered as standard
  • Three side buttons paired with touch input
  • Heart activity monitoring
  • GPS and GNSS support
  • Launch in January
