Garmin has announced new smartwatches that come with solar charging, thus increasing autonomy even further on a series of devices that already came with impressive battery life.

First and foremost, it’s the Instinct lineup that’s getting solar charging on the Instinct Solar, Instinct Solar Surf Edition, and Instinct Solar Tactical Edition.

With a dedicated battery saving mode and solar charging, these devices get infinite battery life, according to Garmin itself. And if you rely mostly on solar charging without the Battery Saver model, you’re still supposed to get some 50 days per each charge.

Solar charging is also coming to the Tactix Delta, a model that was developed from the very beginning with military activities in mind. Thanks to the addition of this new feature, the battery life per charge is increased from 21 days to 24 days without losing anything in terms of capabilities.

All new models available today

The Fenix 6S and 6S Pro are both getting a similar upgrade, of course with added battery life as long as you work out with enough solar exposure. Both models are also getting extra capabilities, including support for new activities, such as surf, mountain bike, and indoor climb.

“Using a Surf Activity profile, also found on Instinct Solar – Surf Edition, fēnix surfers can track total waves, surf time, total time, max speed and their longest wave. When surfing in front of a Surfline camera, users wearing fēnix or Instinct surf-compatible watches can upload their surf data to their Surfline account and later view video of that surfing activity through Surfline Sessions,” Garmin says.

The Instinct Solar is the most affordable new Garmin watch with solar charging, as it can be yours today for $399.99, while the fenix 6 series with such capabilities start at $849.99. The tactix Delta Solar Edition can be purchased for $1,099.
