Garmin is expected to take the wraps off the Fenix 7 as soon as this week, but as it turns out, the company still found some time to polish the software experience on the current models.

Today, Garmin rolled out software version 20.30 for the Fenix 6 and the Marq watches, and this time, the update comes with lots of changes.

If you’re into biking, this update brings huge news. Garmin Fenix 6 now supports eBike, eMTB, Cyclocross, Gravel Bike, Bike Commute, Bike Tour, and Road Bike profiles, therefore offering more accurate tracking according to the used modes.

The update also includes new activities, including tennis, pedal, pickleball, and snowshoe.

The changelog reveals this update also comes with additional Pulse Ox Measuring polishing and with improvements for the altimeter.

“Added pop-up to Pulse Ox Measuring feature if the device detects too much movement and cannot get an accurate measurement,” Garmin explains in the changelog. “Update the altimeter’s auto-calibration to be either be “On” or “Nightly”. Setting to “On” will set the device to periodically calibrate altitude throughout the day. Setting to “Nightly” will set the device to calibrate altitude at night and before the start of an activity.”

Garmin Fenix 7 just around the corner

The update seems to land just at the right time, as this new version is likely to come pre-loaded on the Fenix 7 launching this week.

On the other hand, Garmin has so far remained tight-lipped on the Fenix 7, so nobody knows exactly when the sales could start.

I’m hearing 4 to 6 weeks, with Garmin to begin taking pre-orders for the Fenix 7 shortly after the official announcement, but at this point, it’s better to take this information with a pinch of salt, especially as we’re only a few hours away from the official revealing.
